I remember being a little underwhelmed by The Replacements but then they got under my skin, but not into my top ten. One of these IS next up in my own list.Séamus Dugganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00574186409184247059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-500794647428701667.post-26226177781049513412013-05-09T17:25:36.192+01:002013-05-09T17:25:36.192+01:00Great selection Bren.

Curiously, the one band I tried to shoehorn into the top 10 is the Drive-By truckers (I felt with the usual suspects I would be preaching to the converted).. They operate in the much-maligned Southern Rock genre. I was torn between Decoration Day and the Dirty South. These abums saw the two main songwriters Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley joined by the very young Jason Isbell whose songs really move me. Both albums are around the sixty minute mark. Each would be perfect if they were distilled down to the eight best songs- the tyranny of the longer CD playing time rules again.

It only came to me this morning that, on a previous album - Southern Rock Opera - there is a great song - Let There be Rock which ends with-

"And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw AC/DC
With Bon Scott singing, "Let There Be Rock Tour".

With Bon Scott singing, let there be rock!"

So maybe, I was getting the Truckers in, subconciously...

Thanks for your comments Trevor...Hissyfit is an inspired name for a blog. I will be folloowing your top 10 avidly.

Brendan
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-500794647428701667.post-10063993420269762382013-05-08T09:18:37.970+01:002013-05-08T09:18:37.970+01:00Ah Seamus, you've stolen a march on me again.
...Ah Seamus, you've stolen a march on me again.
See http://hissyf.blogspot.co.uk

I read that 'Starsailor' would be your number one Brendan and nearly tuned out, thinking that you'd gone for the Travis wannabes...
A fine choice of records; I like Smog but prefer Callaghan's solo stuff; love the M Ward album (playing now) and agree with you on the Bonnie Prince choice when most would go for 'I See a Darkness'. I'm still wrestling with my Tom Waits choice but Raindogs is there in the top three or four of his stuff. Always thought the Replacements were over rated but love Paul Westerberg's solo 'Suicaine Gratification' which hosts the exquisite 'Bookmark'.
Thanks for playing Brendan...
